City of Ontario Increases CNG Fleet and Upgrades CNG Fueling Facility
The City of Ontario has taken possession of nine new compressed natural gas (CNG) powered refuse trucks. The purchase of three automated side loading trucks, three front loading trucks, and three roll off trucks brings the City’s fleet of CNG refuse powered vehicles to sixty-nine. In addition to CNG powered refuse trucks, the City’s Fleet includes six CNG powered Honda Civics, one CNG powered stakebed truck, three CNG powered sewer vactors and two water trucks.
The City of Ontario is also in the process of upgrading their CNG fueling facility. The project includes adding 24-slow fill hoses for overnight fueling of City CNG vehicles and adding security lighting and cameras in the expanded areas.
The City has been awarded grant funds from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) Local Government Match Program in the amounts of $270,000 for the incremental cost increase of outfitting new refuse trucks with CNG fuel systems and up to $150,000 for planned expansion and improvements to the City’s CNG fueling facility.
The City operated CNG fueling facility located at 1440 S. Cucamonga Avenue is available to the public twenty four hours a day and accepts Visa and MasterCard. The fuel island’s lighted canopy provides adequate lighting to ensure safety and security.
