Step Right Up: Behind the Scenes of the Circus Big Top, 1890 - 1965 
February 4, 2016 – March 13, 2016 
In an era spanning the early 20th century, through depression ridden times and a dust bowl, one form of revelry thrived – the circus. Step Right Up! Behind the Scenes of the Circus Big Top, 1890 – 1965 explores another side of this thrilling spectacle and a history fraught with intrigue and majesty.

The exhibition is toured by ExhibitsUSA, a national program of Mid-America Arts Alliance. ExhibitsUSA sends more than 25 exhibitions on tour to more than 100 small- and mid-sized communities every year. Mid-America is the oldest nonprofit regional arts organization in the United States.

Learn about the museum’s core exhibition Road Ways which highlights westward expansion, historic Route 66, and an ever-changing Ontario. Create a zine, handmade book for students to document their neighborhood. Refreshments will be served. Free Admission. Reservations required.

Circus Poster Presentation and Circus Diorama Workshop 
Saturday, February 27, 2016 (2 PM to 4 PM) 
Learn about the history of circus posters from Greg McWhorter, teacher, pop-culture historian, and private collector of vintage posters and books. After the lecture, create a small diorama inspired by the intrigue of the circus. To participate, bring a small box. Other materials will be provided. Free Admission. Reservations required.

Ontario Museum of History & Art, Associates Fundraiser, Ontario: A Dream Come True

The Ontario Museum of History & Art, Associates invites you to an evening of fun to celebrate Ontario’s rich history. Funds raised will support our educational activities and programs. Thursday, April 21, 2016 (4:00 PM to 5:30 PM)
Join us for our quarterly series for educators and learn how you can integrate the Faces of the Community exhibit into your classroom. The exhibit explores the history of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish and its neighborhood in Ontario. Learn about community-engaged art, oral histories, and portraiture with Ontario artist Andrea Benitez, plus receive an educator resource packet and exhibit publication. Free Admission. Hands On: Invitational Artists Share Techniques
Saturday, April 23, 2016 (1 PM to 4 PM)
Learn from master artists Chick Curtis and Karen Clark and gain experience in two art workshops in figure drawing and watercolor. Chick Curtis’ figure drawing session: 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Karen Clark’s watercolor session: 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM. $5 material fee per workshop. Space is limited. Reservations required.

Summer Horseshoe Fun and Games
Saturday, June 18, 2016 (2 PM to 4 PM)
Let’s have good old fashioned fun as we celebrate Ontario’s 125th Anniversary. Nugent’s Park, adjacent to the museum, was originally given to the City of Ontario in 1895. It is the oldest park in Ontario. Learn how to pitch horseshoes and throw a perfect “ringer!” Free Admission.

Wreath Making Workshop

Put on your gardening gloves and learn how to make seasonal wreaths using materials straight from your garden. $5 material fee. Space is limited. Reservations required.
 
Docent Graduation and Recognition
Saturday, June 25, 2016 (2 PM to 4 PM)
Celebrate and honor the new graduating class of 2016 and learn about the docent program. Our docents have been key in providing tours for 1,200 students every year. Tours are now projected to increase to over 2,000 students annually, making the need for docents even greater. Come celebrate the new graduating class! Light refreshments. Free Admission.
