South Area Commander

South Area Commander

David McBride

I started my career with the Ontario Police Department in 1994 and graduated from the 118th session of the San Bernardino County Sherriff's Academy.  I have worked a variety of assignments that include the Field Operations Bureau, Bicycle Patrol, Public Information Officer, Crisis Negotiator, and Gang Suppression Investigator assigned to a multi-agency task force.
After promoting to the rank of Corporal, I returned to the Field Operations Bureau as a Field Training Officer training newly hired police officers.  I then promoted to a Detective assigned to investigate property and person crimes, domestic violence and homicide; later taking over supervision of the Gang Suppression Unit.
As a Detective, I was also assigned to the Office of the Chief of Police as the Criminal Intelligence Officer investigating civil litigation claims, assisting the Internal Affairs Division and being designated as the department's Terrorism Liaison Officer.

I promoted to the rank of Sergeant and returned to the Field Operations Bureau as a patrol supervisor.  I also assumed supervision of the Public information Officer Team, and the Crisis Response Team and the department's Temporary Holding Facility.

I was later assigned to the Investigation Bureau as a Detective Supervisor, before taking over supervision of the Personnel and Training Division.  In this assignment, I supervised background investigations and hiring of new employees, as well as the state compliance and implementation of training for the department.  I returned to the Field Operations Bureau after promoting to the rank of Lieutenant where I work as a Shift Watch Commander.  I have a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management and a graduate of the Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute, as well as the Los Angeles Police Department- West Point Leadership Academy.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
