Armed Home invasion Robbery Suspects Arrested - Property and Gun Recovered

November 15, 2017

On Tuesday, November 14, at approximately 9:30am, two suspects approached the front door of a home in the 600 block of East Elm Street. They knocked on the front door and when it was opened by the homeowner, the two identified themselves a probation officers. They even flashed a badge as they pushed their way through the front door. Once inside, one of the suspects, later identified as Jonathan Cline pointed a gun at one of the victims and demanded to know where the safe was.

After they had the safe, Cline and suspect #2, Raymond Apodaca, fled out the back door and left south on Campus Ave. The victim immediately called police and gave a suspect vehicle description.

The Ontario police helicopter was in the area and picked up the blue VW Jetta traveling south on Campus Ave with the two suspects inside. The helicopter followed the suspects as they pulled into a gas station on the corner of Euclid and Philadelphia. Apodaca exited the Jetta and got into a white Toyota Corolla. Apodaca was stopped by officers as he exited the gas station and he was arrested without incident.

Cline remained in the Jetta and headed south toward the 60 freeway. Cline got on the freeway heading west and was driving erratically on the shoulder speeding past other cars. Once officers got behind him with lights and siren, he pulled over and was also arrested without incident.

The stolen safe was recovered from the front seat of the Jetta. Officers also found a yellow security badge inside the car. An area search was made where Cline had entered the freeway and a loaded handgun was recovered.

Both 36-year-old Raymond Apodaca of Ontario and 35-year-old Jonathan Cline of La Habra were transported to the West valley Detention Center. They are both being charged with first degree residential robbery, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of a handgun with the serial number removed and for being previously convicted felons in possession of a firearm.
