September 06, 2017

This shooting appears to have resulted from a dispute over payment, involving prostitution. The victim, 44-year-old Irwin Myland of Rancho Cucamonga, was shot while still in the hotel room and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives were able to gather enough information to identify the suspects and their vehicle. 24-years-old Fernando Covarrubias, out of Fresno, is suspected of being the shooter.

Fresno PD conducted a surveillance on Covarrubias. When Covarrubias left the location, Fresno PD tried to do a traffic stop but Covarrubias took off. A short pursuit occurred that eventually came to an end, where Fresno PD took Covarrubias into custody without further incident.

A total of three suspects were identified as being involved in the incident and all three have been arrested. Fernando Covarrubias was arrested for the following charges out of Fresno PD: Felony evading arrest, felon in possession of a firearm, obstructing and delaying a police officer as well as being an unlicensed driver and having a no-bail warrant.
