Detectives are investigating what led up to the shooting death of an Ontario man.
On February 14, 2017 at approximately 12:10 pm, police received a call of a shooting victim in the street in the 900 block of S. Magnolia Ave. Officers quickly arrived on the scene and were told by neighbors that the suspect, later identified as Alberto Luna, was last seen running west of the location. Luna tossed the gun in a neighborhood yard as he fled.
Moments later, residents at 1309 W. Mission Blvd. started calling saying that a man was trying to break into an apartment in the complex. Police found Luna a short distance from the entrance and he was arrested without incident. Luna was positively identified by witnesses as the man who fatally shot the victim.
The victim was transported to a local area hospital where he died from the injuries. The victim was only identified as a 30-year-old Ontario man pending notification of the family by the Coroner’s Office.
Alberto Luna, a 26-year-old Ontario resident, was booked into the West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. He is being held on murder charges and his bail has been set at one million dollars.
