The Ontario City Council on Tuesday approved a temporary moratorium on evictions for nonpayment of rent by residential or commercial tenants adversely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The moratorium, which also applies to storage unit patrons, protects tenants who cannot make their rental payments for any of the following reasons:

The City of Ontario is urging residents and businesses to remain vigilant in practicing social distancing and exercising responsible behavior in order to flatten the COVID-19 curve as more detail emerges on the number of local cases.

The City of Ontario has filed a public records request with the County of San Bernardino for information on where confirmed coronavirus are occurring.

So far, only countywide data has been released, which puts Ontario and other cities at a disadvantage when it comes to keeping their own communities informed and safe. Ontario Police have arrested a man for making criminal threats against a local high school.

Police were notified earlier this morning about a man who was making a threat to do harm to Ontario High School on a social media account. An acquaintance of the man saw the post and notified police of the pending threat. Investigators immediately began working the case and identified Julio Cesar Medina, age 23 of Ontario, as the person responsible for the post.
