On Monday, August 24, 2020 the Ontario City Library will move Check Out, Ontario!, the library’s FREE version of curbside service, from Westwind Community Center to Lewis Family Branch Library located at 3850 East Riverside Dr. This pick up will be available Monday and Wednesday from 10 AM – 1 PM and Thursday and Friday from 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM. Check Out, Ontario! is also available at the Ovitt Family Community Library, located at 215 East C St., which is currently open by appointment only. On May 30th, 2019, at approximately 2:18 PM, Ontario Police Dispatch received a 911 call stating there was a female, later identified as Araceli Arias, armed with a gun and threatening to kill herself in the backyard of a home in the 400 block of West Maple Street, Ontario. The Ontario Police Helicopter crew located Arias, acting erratically as she stood on top of a shed, armed with a handgun and a machete. Ontario City Library is excited to announce the launch of Brainfuse – on demand, anytime, anywhere eLearning for all ages and levels. Brainfuse HelpNow offers a personalized homework help in core subjects (math, reading, writing, science and social studies) including SAT preparation. The Adult Learning Center is included in the HelpNow suite. The City of Ontario is pleased to announce the next citywide yard (garage) sale weekend is Friday, August 7, 2020, through Sunday, August 9, 2020. If rainy conditions exist on that Friday or Saturday, an alternate yard sale may be held on August 14, 15, and 16, 2020.


In 2010, the City adopted a yard sale ordinance giving residents the opportunity to hold more sales each year on fixed dates and eliminating the need for yard sale permits and fees. An Ontario resident suffered a severe arm injury while lighting an illegal firework.

Police were called to the area of Sixth Street and Virginia Avenue Thursday night at 7:40 PM.  Upon arrival, they discovered a male with a severe left arm injury. The male’s injury, which included the amputation of his left hand, appears to be a result of a delayed detonation from an arial firework. The male was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

The City of Ontario is saluting active servicemembers with the launch of its new military banner program.

The City has installed 25 banners of active duty military personnel who reside in Ontario or have immediate family members living in the City. The banners are located on Mountain Avenue between the 60 Freeway and the Interstate 10 freeway.

The banners feature the name and branch of the service member.

The new program replaces an earlier banner program maintained by the Greater Ontario Business Council.
