Traffic Enforcement Operations Plan for Ontario

 

The Ontario Police Department will step up Bike & Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operations during the week of March 13-17, 2017 with focused enforcement on collision causing factors involving motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Ontario Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License Checkpoint on March 10, 2017, at an undisclosed location within the city limits between the hours of 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

 

The deterrent effect of DUI checkpoints is a proven resource in reducing the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes. Research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20 percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints and proactive DUI patrols are conducted routinely.

Detectives are investigating what led up to the shooting death of an Ontario man.

On February 14, 2017 at approximately 12:10 pm, police received a call of a shooting victim in the street in the 900 block of S. Magnolia Ave. Officers quickly arrived on the scene and were told by neighbors that the suspect, later identified as Alberto Luna, was last seen running west of the location. Luna tossed the gun in a neighborhood yard as he fled.

An Ontario man was arrested early Monday morning after attempting to rape a jogger in the Creekside area of Ontario.

On Sunday, February 12, 2017 at approximately 4:43 P.M., A 17 year old female was attacked while jogging through the green belt area in the Creekside residential community of Ontario.

The suspect (later identified as 24-year-old Christopher Collins of Ontario) tackled the victim and pinned her to the ground, while he attempted to remove her clothing. The female victim fought back causing Collins to flee on foot from the location.
