Military Banners

History

The Ontario Military Banner Program was first launched and maintained by the Greater Ontario Business Council. It was established to honor and recognize active-duty military personnel that reside in, or have immediate family living in the City of Ontario. Military Banners recognize the service member, to include their name and branch of the United States Armed Forces. The City of Ontario is proud to carry on the program and honor those who are serving in the United States Armed Forces.

Applications

If you would like to apply for a Military Banner for a family member currently serving, please fill out the application online:

Military Banner Program Application

The City of Ontario is currently seeking the names of military personnel who are currently serving on active duty in the United States Armed Forces (Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard and National Guard). Names that are submitted to the City of Ontario will be considered for placement on street banners displayed throughout the City as well as the City's website.

Each banner will remain up for a period of two years, then retired and given to the service member or family. If the family or service member would like the banner left up for additional service time, a second banner can be purchased by the family.

To be eligible for the Military Banner Program, the service member must be:

  • An active-duty member of the United States Armed Forces. If you or your loved one is a retired military member, they are eligible for website placement only.
  • Have been a City of Ontario resident at the time of enlistment.

Only one banner per military service member is permitted.

To complete the application for a banner, please submit the following materials:

  • Military Banner Program Application
  • A photo of the service member

Banner Design

Military Banners recognize the service member, to include their name and branch of the United States Armed Forces on the front and back of each banner. Banners measure approximately 3' x 8'.

Cost

There is no cost for the banner or its installation.

After the two years of the initial banner installation, if the family or service member would like the banner left up for additional service time, a second banner can be purchased by the family.

Application Submission

Upon receipt, City of Ontario staff will review submitted applications for completeness. Written notification will then be sent either approving the application with specifics relating to the installation date and location, or asking for further details or clarification should information be missing. All applications must be filled out online.

Banner Installation

Submit completed applications* between October and March for banner installation in April/May (by Memorial Day) and between April and September for banner installation in October/November (by Veterans Day). Each banner will remain up for a period of two years, then retired and given to the honoree or family member.
