Current Broadband Expansion Projects

We continue to expand the City of Ontario's municipally owned fiber-optic network to bring fast, reliable, and affordable internet service to more residents and businesses. As our network grows, we prioritize areas adjacent to our existing fiber infrastructure and communities with limited broadband options. These expansion projects help strengthen the City's digital infrastructure while providing more customers with access to high-speed fiber internet.

Service Area 05 (SA 05) - Construction starting August 2026

Construction is scheduled to begin in August 2026 to extend OntarioNet's fiber-optic network throughout Serving Area 05. While the overall project will continue through the end of the year, work on individual streets is expected to last approximately two to three weeks. During construction, residents may experience temporary traffic control measures, including partial lane closures, sidewalk closures, and temporary parking restrictions. Broadband Expansion Project - Serving Area 05 - Phase 1

What you can expect:

OntarioNet uses specialized microtrenching equipment to install fiber-optic conduit with minimal impact to streets and sidewalks. This method creates a narrow trench, allowing construction to move efficiently while reducing noise, traffic impacts, and restoration time. Once the fiber is installed, the trench is sealed and the area is restored.
