OMUC and PW Service Rates
Water, Sewer and Solid Waste Rates
Rate Studies
To keep pace with rising costs of providing safe, reliable water, sewer, and solid waste services, OMUC and Public Works Integrated Waste hired independent consultants to conduct rate studies (cost of service studies). Based on the cost of service studies, new rates and charges are proposed.
Public Hearing
The City of Ontario is conducting a public hearing to consider changes to water, sewer, recycled water, and solid waste service charges. All property owners and customers should have received a public hearing notice in the mail.

Proposed Rates
Water
Proposed rates would cover increased operations costs, such as water supply purchases, electricity, and treatment, and fund construction costs for critical capital infrastructure projects.
Sewer
Proposed rates would cover increased costs for operational needs such as repairs and maintenance and capital improvements.
Solid Waste
Proposed rates would cover increased operational costs, including maintaining solid waste vehicles and equipment, cost increases in disposal and processing, fuel and ensuring ongoing financial stability. The proposed rates would also address increased costs relating to Senate Bill 1383 (SB1383), which imposes legal requirements for combing food waste and yard waste in organic carts.

OMUC and Public Works Integrated Waste Video Guide
We all use water every day – to drink, to bathe, to clean – in our homes and at our places of work. We dispose of our trash and our wastewater without a second thought. But have you ever stopped to consider what it takes to bring these essential services to your home or business, and how the rates you pay are determined? This video series will explore your water, sewer, and trash services here in Ontario, explaining some of the complex infrastructure needs, introducing our dedicated professionals, and discussing the regulations, like Proposition 218, that govern their operation and the rate setting process.
The City of Ontario Municipal Utilities Company (OMUC) and Public Works Integrated Waste have created a series of videos to highlight the services we provide to residents and businesses, as well as to explain the rate-setting process we are required to complete periodically. This process ensures we can continue delivering the high level of service our customers expect while meeting all legal requirements and obligations. Through these videos, you’ll also meet many of our dedicated staff members, who share their roles and the actions they take each day to provide not only essential services, but exceptional public service to our community.
Some of the videos are designed to provide you an overview of our utilities, examining some of the complexities of managing these essential services, others providing more in-depth information about the cost to operate our systems and maintain our vital infrastructure, or exploring how fair and equitable rates are established to ensure the sustainability of our services.
