Patrol

Field Operations (also known as Patrol) is one of the most fundamental and visible functions of the Ontario Police Department. Personnel assigned to Field Operations serve our community by maintaining public safety, preventing crime, and fostering community trust.

We accomplish these objectives through a multifaceted, dynamic, and adaptive approach. Elements of Field Operations scope of responsibility include:

1. Crime Prevention

  • Deterrence: The visible presence of patrol officers acts as a deterrent to potential criminals.
  • Rapid Response: Patrol officers are typically the first responders to incidents, allowing them to address emergencies promptly.

2. Community Policing

  • Building Trust: Regular interaction between officers and community members fosters trust and strengthens relationships.
  • Problem-Solving: Officers on patrol can identify and address local issues collaboratively with residents.

3. Emergency Response

  • First on Scene: Patrol units are often the first to arrive at the scene of accidents, crimes, or natural disasters, providing immediate assistance.
  • Critical Decisions: Their quick response can save lives and limit property damage.

4. Law Enforcement and Investigations

  • Proactive Policing: Personnel assigned to Field Operations can identify suspicious activity, enforce laws, and make arrests when necessary.

5. Visibility and Reassurance

  • Community Confidence: Regular police presence reassures the community of our commitment and dedication to enhancing their quality of life.
  • Reducing Fear of Crime: Visible patrols can help reduce fear, encouraging community engagement, and fostering trust.

6. Flexibility and Adaptability

  • Dynamic Deployment: Patrols can be adjusted based on crime trends, community needs, and specific challenges.
