Sultana Avenue Storm Drain Project

The Sultana Avenue Storm Drain, Sewer, and Street Improvement project is a Measure Q and Sewer Enterprise funded project that will provide drainage improvements to the community, upgrade existing sewer systems, and help to mitigate flooding within the neighborhood.

In January 2025, the City of Ontario is scheduled to begin construction for the Sultana Avenue Storm Drain, Sewer and Street Improvements Project. The anticipated 18-month project involves the installation of approximately 12,000 feet of storm drain pipe, over 1,500 feet of sewer pipe, new asphalt pavement, rock curb adjustments, tree removal, construction of ADA ramps and the planting of new trees. 

Funded by Measure Q and Sewer Enterprise Funds, the $17 million improvement project will help accommodate the city’s civic center expansion project, enhance drainage during rain events, upgrade sewer lines to increase capacity and provide aesthetic improvements to the community.

En Enero 2025, la Ciudad de Ontario está pautada a empezar construcción para el proyecto de Drenaje de Alcantarillas y Mejoras a la Calle en la Avenida Sultana. El proyecto anticipado de 18 meses involucra la instalación de aproximadamente 12,000 pies de tubería de drenaje, más de 1,500 pies de tubería de drenaje de cloaca, pavimento en asfalto nuevo, ajustes a la banqueta, removimiento de árboles, construcción de rampas de ADA y la plantación de árboles nuevos. 

Financiado por la Medida Q y Fondos de Empresa de Drenaje, el proyecto de mejoras de $17 millones ayudará al acomodamiento del proyecto de expansión del centro cívico, mejorará el drenaje durante eventos de lluvia, actualizará las líneas de desagüe de cloaca para incrementar la capacidad y proveerá mejoras estéticas a la comunidad.

Update

March 2026

  • 3/2-3/6 – The contractor will have partial street closures along 4th Street and Columbia Avenue to install new catch basins and ADA curb ramps. While the street is open to traffic, we advise residents to take precaution in the area since there will be construction vehicles operating here.
  • 3/2-3/20 – The contractor will have partial street closures on J Street from Sultana Avenue to Columbia Avenue to construct new curb and gutter and driveways. During construction of driveways, residents will not have access until construction has completed. Please be sure to be on the lookout for resident notices with additional information regarding whether you will have limited access to your driveway at this time.
  • 2/23-3/20 – The contractor will have traffic control and lane closures on Columbia Avenue from Yale Street to Fifth Street to continue construction efforts on the new storm drain line. Please be mindful of the posted detour signs and utilize alternate routes in this timeframe to navigate around this construction area. After March 20th, the intersection at Columbia and Fifth will be opened back up to normal traffic patterns.
  • 3/13-4/3 – The contractor will have traffic control and lane closures on Fifth Street from Columbia Avenue to College Way to continue construction efforts on the new storm drain line. Please be mindful of the posted detour signs and utilize alternate routes in this timeframe to navigate around this construction area.
  • 3/30-3/31 – The contractor will begin their second phase of repaving. Streets to be repaved include Sultana Avenue from G Street to 4th Street, G Street from Sultana Avenue to Cherry Avenue, and J Street from Sultana Avenue to Columbia Avenue.

April Look Ahead

  • The contractor will be revisiting streets that have had storm drains installed to place catch basins and install new street improvements. Please continue to be mindful of traffic closures and temporary no parking signage.
