The Ontario Museum of History & Art presents its inaugural Youth Art Month exhibition, a collaboration with Mariposa Elementary School
The Ontario Museum of History & Art presents its inaugural Youth Art Month exhibition, on view through May 17, 2026. The exhibition showcases outstanding artwork by students from Mariposa Elementary, inspired by the national Youth Art Month theme, “The World Needs Art,” and celebrates how art education and creative expression shape vibrant communities.
The 2026 national theme was established by the Council for Art Education to celebrate the essential role of art education and to highlight the power of creativity to build strong, vibrant communities.
The exhibit at the Museum Youth Art Month: The World Needs Art presents artwork created by students spanning kindergarten through sixth grade from Mariposa Elementary. These young artists share fresh perspectives, imaginative thinking, and thoughtful reflection.
The Museum extends special acknowledgement to Visual Arts and Performing Arts instructor, Marykate Guzman for her commitment to her students’ creative vitality, and to Dr. Christian Kueng, who established the Robert and Margrith Kueng Outstanding Young Artist Award, a special recognition accompanied by a cash prize. This award was named after the parents of Dr. Kueng, who is a long-time supporter of the Ontario Museum of History & Art as an art educator, Museum Board Trustee, and local artist.
Dr. Kueng shared “my parents always made sure my brothers and I were loved and supported our endeavors. As artists themselves, they encouraged me to pursue my passion for the fine arts. I wanted to continue the tradition of supporting young people and their passion for creating art and expressing themselves creatively.”
A private reception was held on March 3 for the artists and their families, where awards were presented by educators, the non-profit Museum Associates, and local elected officials.
The Youth Art Month exhibition is on view in the Carlson Education Studio at the Ontario Museum of History & Art through Sunday, May 17, 2026. Please note: the Youth Art Month exhibition will be closed to the public on the following dates:
