Michael Lorenz, a 22-year veteran of the Ontario Police Department who moved up the ranks from patrol officer to deputy chief, has been unanimously confirmed as the City’s new police chief, effective immediately.

Chief Lorenz, who joined the department in 1998 after graduating from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department academy, has worked a variety of assignments during his tenure, including narcotics, gang violence suppression, field training and SWAT.

Lewis Family Branch Library reopened for limited services on Tuesday, September 8, 2020.  The library is open by appointment only, patrons can make an appointment online at OntarioCA.gov/Library.  Temporary operating hours are Monday and Tuesday 10 AM – 1 PM, Wednesday and Thursday 2 PM – 6 PM. Library staff are excited to welcome back our community after being closed through the summer due to Chaffey High School District HVAC maintenance, painting and rug replacement.

The City of Ontario today announces that the Ontario Promise Corps program has received $392,000 in AmeriCorps funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), the federal agency responsible for AmeriCorps and other national service programs.

The City of Ontario is pleased to announce the next citywide yard (garage) sale weekend is Friday, September 25, 2020, through Sunday, September 27, 2020. If rainy conditions exist on that Friday or Saturday, an alternate yard sale may be held on October 2, 3, and 4, 2020. This yard sale weekend has been scheduled to give residents another opportunity that was previously canceled in May.

In 2010, the City adopted a yard sale ordinance giving residents the opportunity to hold more sales each year on fixed dates and eliminating the need for yard sale permits and fees. The… Read More

On Monday, August 24, 2020 the Ontario City Library will move Check Out, Ontario!, the library’s FREE version of curbside service, from Westwind Community Center to Lewis Family Branch Library located at 3850 East Riverside Dr. This pick up will be available Monday and Wednesday from 10 AM – 1 PM and Thursday and Friday from 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM. Check Out, Ontario! is also available at the Ovitt Family Community Library, located at 215 East C St., which is currently open by appointment only. On May 30th, 2019, at approximately 2:18 PM, Ontario Police Dispatch received a 911 call stating there was a female, later identified as Araceli Arias, armed with a gun and threatening to kill herself in the backyard of a home in the 400 block of West Maple Street, Ontario. The Ontario Police Helicopter crew located Arias, acting erratically as she stood on top of a shed, armed with a handgun and a machete. As officers arrived on scene, they observed a male climb on top of the shed with Arias. The male then began to struggle with Arias to get the gun away from her.… Read More
