The City of Ontario announced today that the annual Independence Day Parade and Fireworks Spectacular are being cancelled this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The moves are among a variety of steps being taken that will impact the City’s recreation and community services over the next several months. Alternative virtual programing is being planned where possible, but a number of summertime staples – including concerts in the park and movies in the park – will not occur as they have in the past.

On Monday, May 11, 2020 the Ontario City Library started a new service called Check Out, Ontario! Community members can pick up library materials they have placed on hold using their City of Ontario Library card. Customers can place up to ten holds through the library’s online catalog or by calling the library directly. Ontario, Calif. — May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month, and the Ontario Police Department encourages the community to think about the safety of riders on two wheels and look twice for motorcycles.

Additional officers from the Ontario Department will be out on patrol tonight from 6 p.m. to 12 a.m. looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Patrols will take place in areas with a history of DUI crashes and arrests. In 2018, 1,069 people were killed on California roads in crashes involving drivers who had a blood alcohol content over the legal limit (.08 or above). Last year, the Ontario Police Department investigated 96 DUI crashes that killed 5 people and injured 126 others.

(Ontario, CA) On March 14, 2020, the Ontario Police Department conducted a Minor Decoy Grant Project Operation. The operation was designed to ensure compliance of establishments with ABC regulations and procedures.

During the operation, seven locations were tested. Three locations which are listed below, were found to be in violation of selling alcohol to a minor. In addition to the initial violations, four subjects were arrested for selling alcohol to minors. All subjects who violated the law were arrested and released on a notice to appear citation.
