71 local government agencies awarded a total of $37.5 Million in grants to reduce illegal sales of cigarettes and tobacco products to minors and youth

Today, the Ontario Police Department was awarded $45,200 in state grant funding from California Attorney General Xavier Becerra to combat the illegal sale of cigarettes and tobacco products to minors. In May 2007, the Ontario City Council enacted an ordinance which reaffirmed existing Ontario Municipal Codes prohibiting fireworks and declared fireworks within the City of Ontario a nuisance, carrying a $1,000 fine. This fine is in addition to any other civil penalty, criminal prosecution or fine. Ontario revised the ordinance in October 2015 to include:

  • Holding residential property owners responsible for violations occurring on their property;
  • Holding parents and legal guardians responsible for any violations of the code by a minor;

Ontario Police have arrested a man during an undercover operation targeting the sale of illegal and dangerous fireworks.

Ernesto Jimenez, a 23-year-old man from Riverside, was arrested Thursday after selling illegal fireworks to undercover officers. Jimenez, who was advertising through a social media website, was found to be in possession of explosive aerial fireworks known as mortars. While fireworks classified as “safe and sane” may be legal in some jurisdictions, possession of this type of dangerous firework in the state of California is a felony.

Officers from the Ontario Police Department cited two clerks for selling alcohol to minors on June 9, 2018. The actions were the result of a minor decoy operation in which minors, under the direct supervision of department investigators, attempted to purchase alcohol from 13 retail licensees in the City of Ontario.

Those who sold to the minor face a minimum fine of $250.00, and/or 24 to 32 hours of community service for a first violation. In addition, the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) will take administrative action against the alcoholic beverage license of the business… Read More
