How It Works
When we issue a notification about a potential safety hazard or concern, you will receive a message on the voice or text communication methods that you have registered. If requested for the notification, you can confirm that you have received the message and you will not be contacted by any subsequent methods regarding that particular notification. If you do not confirm, the system will continue to attempt to reach you at all of the contact paths that you have registered.
Here are a number of resources you can use to be informed:
911: If you have a life-threatening emergency requiring a police officer or you need an ambulance or fire truck for any reason, call 911.
311: When you need non-emergency city services, dial 311.
909-986-6711: If you have a non-emergency situation (prior event, no current threat to life or property) requiring a police response.
211: For information on local community services, such as food, shelter and counseling call 211. It is confidential and available 24 hours a day in more than 150 languages.

In an effort to quickly communicate information on impending dangers, the San Bernardino County Sheriff and Fire Departments send high-speed mass notifications via telephone and text messages. This system is known as the Telephone Emergency Notification System (TENS).
The County uses a database of landline telephone numbers, which is updated every six months, to send emergency messages to landline phones only. By signing up below, residents can also receive emergency text messages on their cell phones, add voice over internet phone numbers (V.O.I.P.), and manage their own account using a valid email address. Those without internet connections can sign up by calling 211 or 909-980-2857 for assistance in registering.
TENS alerts do not generally go out to the entire County but instead are targeted to affected areas. You must enter a valid San Bernardino County address. This is the address for which you will receive alerts.

Integrated Public Alert & Warning System (IPAWS)
During an emergency, alert and warning officials need to provide the public with life-saving information quickly. The Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (IPAWS) is a modernization and integration of the nation’s alert and warning infrastructure and will save time when time matters most, protecting life and property.
Federal, State, territorial, tribal, and local alerting authorities can use IPAWS and integrate local systems that use Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) standards with the IPAWS infrastructure. IPAWS provides public safety officials with an effective way to alert and warn the public about serious emergencies using the Emergency Alert System (EAS), Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio, and other public alerting systems from a single interface. By registering for AlertOntario, you will be informed of these types of notifications when appropriate.
Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA)
During threatening emergencies in your area, authorized government agencies can send Wireless Emergency Alerts to your mobile device. Messages regarding extreme weather, life threatening emergencies, AMBER alerts, and Presidential Alerts during a national emergency are all sent through the WEA system. Emergency Alert System (EAS)
The Emergency Alert System is a national public warning system that requires TV and radio broadcasters, cable television systems, wireless cable systems, satellite digital audio radio service providers, direct broadcast satellite service providers and wireline video service providers to offer to the President the communications capability to address the American public during a national emergency. The system also may be used by state and local authorities to deliver important emergency information such as AMBER (missing children) alerts and emergency weather information targeted to a specific area.
Along with its capability of providing an emergency message to the entire nation simultaneously, the EAS allows authorized state and local authorities to quickly distribute important local emergency information. An authorized emergency manager can use the EAS to broadcast a warning from one or more major radio stations in a particular state. EAS equipment in other radio and television stations, as well as in cable television systems in that state, can automatically monitor and rebroadcast the warning.
The Ontario Fire Department is proud to announce the launch of the PulsePoint Respond mobile app. PulsePoint Respond is a pre-arrival solution designed to support public safety agencies working to improve cardiac arrest survival rates through improved bystander performance and active citizenship.
The Ontario Fire Department launched the PulsePoint CPR/AED smartphone application to help improve sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) survival rates in the City of Ontario. The PulsePoint app helps improve community response to SCA victims by enabling citizen bystanders to provide lifesaving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and access to nearby public access automated external defibrillator (AED). SCA is a leading cause of death in the United States, accounting for an estimated 325,000 deaths each year or 1,000 deaths per day. The American Heart Association estimates that effective bystander CPR, provided immediately after sudden cardiac arrest, can double or triple a person’s chance of survival. Only about one-quarter of SCA victims receive bystander CPR and even fewer receive a potentially lifesaving therapeutic shock from a public access AED. Improving bystander CPR rates and access to AEDs is critical to survival.
- The app is activated by the local public safety communications center simultaneous with the dispatch of local fire and EMS resources.
- The purpose of the app is to increase the survival rates of cardiac arrest victims by reducing collapse-to-CPR times by increasing citizen awareness of cardiac arrest events beyond a traditional “witnessed” area. Reducing collapse-to-defibrillation times by increasing awareness of public access defibrillator (AED) locations through real-time mapping of nearby devices.
- The app is only activated if the event is occurring in a public place (the app is not typically activated for residential addresses).
- In addition to the life-saving CPR/AED functionality, the app provides a virtual window into fire and EMS activity in the community, offering a unique opportunity for civic engagement.

PulsePoint Respond app notifies CPR-trained citizens that an individual in a public area is experiencing sudden cardiac arrest and that they may be in a position to perform CPR until the arrival of emergency crews.
PulsePoint AED is an application that directs users to the closest publicly-accessible AED. The app enables users to upload the location of the AED, which is then verified, and becomes available to all users during an emergency.
