Land Development Section

The Land Development Division of the Engineering Department is responsible for the orderly subdivision of land and development of all public infrastructure and improvements associated with new development within the Public Right-of-Way. These improvements might include but are not limited to public streets, traffic control, potable and recycled water lines, sanitary sewer systems, and storm drains. Infrastructure improvements are needed to protect the health, safety and general welfare of the citizens, visitors and business community of Ontario.

Most of the required improvements is a result of mitigation of impacts created by new residential, commercial or industrial development occurring within the City. As such, the Land Development Division is the focal point of review, administration, permitting, inspection, and construction of such public infrastructure improvements.

The Land Development Division also reviews and tracks residential, commercial, and industrial subdivisions for conformance with the California Subdivision Map Act and serves as the City’s primary contact with other regional agencies related to permitting such as the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the Inland Empire Utilities Agency (IEUA), the San Bernardino County Flood Control District, and the US Army Corps of Engineer.
