City of Ontario Increases CNG Fleet and Upgrades CNG Fueling Facility

The City of Ontario continues to increase its CNG powered fleet of vehicles in an effort to reduce Greenhouse Gases emissions in accordance with regional, state and federal regulations. The City currently operates eighty-eight (88) CNG powered vehicles with our most recent purchases of six (6) Refuse Trucks for the Integrated Waste Department and the City’s first CNG powered Asphalt Patch Truck for the Street Department. City staff is looking at innovative vehicles and equipment to replace current units that use diesel and gasoline fuels with alternative powered vehicles.

To keep up with the anticipated needs of the City we recently upgraded our CNG fueling facility. The project which was completed in July 2018 added 24-slow fill hoses for overnight fueling of the City’s CNG vehicles with security lighting.

The City has been awarded grant funds from the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC) Local Government Match Program in the amounts of $270,000 for the incremental cost increase of outfitting new refuse trucks with CNG fuel systems and up to $150,000 for planned expansion and improvements to the City’s CNG fueling facility.
