UPDATE: False Threat Suspect Sentenced

Ontario, CA – On Monday, June 19, 2023, Angel Marin was arrested for causing mass panic by making false threats at the Ontario Mills on Memorial Day. Marin yelled out "gun" and "he has a gun" as he ran through the Ontario Mills. Marin’s reckless actions caused guests to panic and run throughout the mall, causing injury to some of the patrons.

On Monday, November 6, 2023, Marin pleaded no contest to the charge of PC 148.3(b) reporting a false emergency causing injury. Marin has remained in custody since his arrest and will serve 16 months in county prison.

Ontario Police Department will continue to work with our partners at the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office to ensure the successful prosecution of suspects who knowingly make false threats/emergencies. Our highest priority is to ensure the safety of all our residents and visitors.
