Mayor Paul Leon and the City Council praised the Ontario Police Department and the staff of the Ontario Mills Mall for their swift, safe and effective coordination of an evacuation of the mall following a disturbance on Saturday, July 7.

Police are still investigating the incident, which apparently involved a Taser weapon being fired during a fight. The mall was evacuated and the situation contained. The Mills are open for business today.

City officials said the presence of a police substation at the mall helped ensure a rapid response.

On Sunday, July 8, 2018, Ontario Police arrested Crystal Gonzales for child endangerment at the Wal-Mart, located at 1333 N Mountain Ave.

Police were called to the scene reference two young children locked inside a vehicle at approximately 7:44 PM. Upon arrival, they discovered two young children (age 1 year and 9 months) were locked inside a white GMC in distress, due to high temperatures. When police arrived they discovered the vehicle was not running and the air conditioning was turned off.

While much of the community went out to celebrate Independence Day at the City’s Fireworks Spectacular on Wednesday night, Ontario Police and Fire personnel were out in force, seeking to protect neighborhoods and commercial areas from the dangers of illegal fireworks. The law enforcement effort, which came on the heels of an aggressive campaign to educate the public on the dangers of fireworks and to confiscate fireworks before they could be sold or distributed within the City, resulted in approximately 40 fireworks-related citations.

The spirit of Independence Day is in full swing, and in preparation for the holiday next week, the Ontario Police and Fire Departments are urging community members to do their part in keeping Ontario safe and refrain from using illegal fireworks.

The Ontario Police Department, in partnership with the Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), are taking an active approach on educating employees of licensed liquor locations.

The Ontario Police Department has received funding from the Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Grant Assistance Program (GAP) to conduct educational inspections. This program is referred to as IMPACT inspections. IMPACT is designed to educate employees and owners of licensed liquor locations about the legalities and regulations associated with owning and operating an alcohol licensed business.
